As the Communications Director, you are responsible for managing the Communications department at Nickerson and the content it delivers; you will ensure brand messaging is consistent, timely, and relevant. You will develop and execute strategies that are intended to create and uphold a positive public image for clients and Nickerson. Candidates for this position can be located in Boston, NYC, Miami, Los Angeles, or San Francisco.

By working and forming relationships with various members of the media, target industries, government, and the public, directors generate new business opportunities. You will work directly with members of the communications team on strategies and execution for public relations campaigns to support current clients and develop business opportunities with new clients. You will execute on client scopes, assign activities and accounts, and monitor, review, and approve the work of team members. You will attend industry specific events and direct all external communications activities. You will also work closely with the Social Media, Events and Creative teams on cross promotional initiatives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Direct communications department within Nickerson and collaborate with partner PR firms as appropriate
  • Map out content and editorial strategy/calendar for each client and Nickerson and ensure team executes on agreed upon strategy
  • Ensure each communication strategy is consistent and reflects the client’s strategic vision Build upon the strong media relations you have garnered in the marketplace and introduce Nickerson to your social influencers
  • Advocate on behalf of our clients’ and Nickerson’s brands with external stakeholders and the media across all communications channels and vehicles Pitch reporters, influencers, and media contacts for clients and Nickerson
  • Work with media outlets to publish timely client and company information, such as press releases and feature articles/manage the relationship to get top placements
  • Research public/market opinion for discovery and SWOT analysis
  • Attend select client pitches and subsequent kick-off meetings with appropriate team members
  • Participate in client calls or meet with clients regularly to ensure satisfaction with communications reports/deliverables/ROI
  • Assist with research and development of select client press releases; edit and revise content as necessary
  • Author client case studies in Blog format to showcase results/best practices on the Nickerson and/or client website and social media platforms
  • Monitor daily news and PR trends for internal and client-facing implementations
  • Research, develop, and maintain media target lists for public relations and social engagement
  • Collaborate with the creative and social teams on content creation, marketing and promotional plans
  • Note presence of clients at industry events, conferences and speaking engagements and repurpose/promote content as applicable
  • Analyze campaigns and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations for revising campaigns
  • Attend industry events and network with prospects and clients for business development purposes
  • Hire, train, develop, and retain existing and new team members on PR best practices


Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • PR/Marketing/Communications/Journalism degree/background required
  • 5-10 years communications experience Experience in the commercial real estate market required
  • Experience managing finances and budgets for a communications department
  • Proficient and compelling writer with the ability to target content to applicable audiences
  • Fantastic communication and people skills, including client pitches and phone presentations
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing a team
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to oversee 15-20 campaigns
  • Willingness to work in a fast-moving, dynamic and team-oriented environment
  • Comfortable with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and CRM systems
  • Confident in learning new social media platforms and software
  • Attention to detail with accuracy and consistency
  • Resourceful and proactive with the ability to troubleshoot and set priorities
