Nickerson Connects Community and Inspiration at Wingate Living

When hometown hero Sunita “Suni” Williams walked through the doors of Wingate Residences at Needham, she didn’t just bring with her stories from her time in space. She brought joy, pride, and a deep sense of connection with the community. For residents, family members, and staff, this was much more than a special event, it was a reminder that heroes can be just like us. Suni quickly took time to make residents feel at ease, posed for pictures and signed autographs, making sure to ask each person she met where they were from and what they did.

At Nickerson, we specialize in supporting our client-partners with experiences like this: moments that not only create lasting memories but also generate meaningful media exposure and reinforce reputation.

From the Stars to Needham

NASA astronaut Suni Williams has logged more than 600 days in space, including that extended mission where she spent 186 straight days in space. While visiting with Wingate residents, Suni shared firsthand accounts of what it’s like to live and work aboard the International Space Station. Residents beamed as they asked questions about laundry, physical fitness, the future of space travel, and more. Suni wiped tears from her eyes as she shared what it was like to drive back through neighborhoods in Needham that meant so much to her.

Creating Moments that Matter

Events like this don’t happen by chance. They take planning, strategy, and a deep understanding of what resonates with audiences. At Nickerson, our role was to ensure this moment received the attention it deserved. From securing media coverage to positioning Wingate Residences at Needham as the center of a story that blended inspiration, science, and hometown pride, we worked to make sure the impact reached beyond the event itself.

The Power of Storytelling

This was far more than just an astronaut visiting a residence. It was about creating a story that residents could share with loved ones, a story local media could celebrate, and a story that tied a nationally celebrated figure back to her hometown roots in Needham. And that’s the essence of effective storytelling; taking moments that mean something and turning them into a lasting narrative.

Not every day brings a NASA astronaut home, but every day offers the opportunity to create meaningful connections. At Nickerson, we believe that by thoughtfully showcasing events and amplifying them through the right channels, we help our client-partners deliver experiences that resonate far beyond the day itself.
