Across the Pond with the Nickerson Team

London's Tower Bridge

This was my first time in London, so I was eager to take in all the city had to offer.

From Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to The Arts Club, Tate Modern, and beyond, the Nickerson team had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to immerse ourselves in London culture this Fall.

Nickerson has a unique “Work From Anywhere” policy, and team members have spent the last year and a half traveling to Seattle, Detroit, Chicago, LA, Philadelphia, and beyond to work from environments both new and familiar. Crossing the pond, however, was a first for the team when Lisa and Molly jetted to London in October for the CRETech London Conference, meet with clients, and enjoy working together in-person, all while enjoying everything that autumn in London has to offer.

Between meetings, client calls, and conference panels, I attended my first English Premier League game, where we watched my longtime team Manchester United battle it out against the Tottenham Hotspurs. This game was a highlight of the trip for me, particularly when Cristiano Ronaldo scored, as my family comes from Portugal. We enjoyed being six hours ahead of our colleagues in the U.S. and used morning hours to enjoy leisurely walks through London’s bounty of museums, including the Tate Modern, Victoria and Albert Museum, and more. In the evening, if we weren’t bopping over to Harrod’s to enjoy the Christmas display, we had long dinners together and even met up with friends and clients (hi, Vasileios Karatzenis!) to explore London’s delicious food scene.

This was my first time in London, so I was eager to take in all the city had to offer. I was struck as I always am in Europe by the way the city blends old and new, with glass skyscrapers sitting adjacent to centuries-old cathedrals. In a way, this juxtaposition of old and new was the theme of the trip, as our attendance at CREtech also had us learning about how real estate is shifting, and how technology is informing the industry’s future.

Attending this conference and immersing ourselves in the culture ‘across the pond’ together provided Lisa and I with ample opportunities to discuss big ideas, from business and technology to design and sustainability. As our team continues to travel together both across the US and abroad, we look forward to sharing what we’ve learned, and utilizing our expertise to elevate our journey, and the journeys of our client-partners!
